🧠Memory window
AI has a short memory: it only sees the last few messages - its “context window”. He literally cannot see everything that has gone beyond the edge of the window. Name the secret, then just chat, and at any time press “Check memory” - catch the moment when the AI loses it.
How it works: context window
AI does not remember the entire conversation - at one time it sees a limited “window” of recent messages (context). In modern models, the window is large, but still finite: when the conversation is longer than the window, the oldest messages fall out, and the model literally does not receive them as input.
Therefore, AI “forgets” the beginning of a long conversation, loses details from a large document, and may contradict what it said before. He is not lazy - these words are simply not in the piece that was given to him. In our game, the window is deliberately tiny (6 messages) so that the effect is visible in a minute.
What to do with this in practice: keep the important things closer to the current message, periodically repeat key details and do not expect that the model remembers everything from the beginning. The ability to fit the main thing into the context window is part of the prompting skill. You can practice in a free lesson.
